8D audio is the technology’s latest trend and dividing music lovers by now. Thus, Wikipedia is not telling about it yet.

Hear about this new-found audio sensation and find out if it is the new edge of sound technology or just a new trend to fade. Read on as we talk about the latest improvements in the audio world.

8D audio vs surround sound

As stated in Wikipedia, surround sound is a technique for enriching the fidelity and depth of sound reproduction by using multiple audio channels from speakers that surround the listener, to create a more 360° sound field.

8D audio uses the left and right speakers of the headphone to create a more immersive experience and that tricks the brain into thinking that sound or music is coming from different directions or dimensions.

Surround sound is a multichannel format, which has a front center speaker and two surround speakers in the room. Whereas 8D is created to exclusively work with headphones.

However, 8D audio works with surround sound on headphones (leveraging binaural techniques), surround sound home theater systems, and even single 3D speakers.

The effects of 8D audio

8D audio creates a more satisfying and enjoyable sensation for the listener as:

1. It has more spatial reverb that can apply to songs to make it sound like the audio is moving in circles around the listener’s head.

2. It is created by adding an automated panning effect alternating from left to right added to the final mix of song.

Final Thoughts

Many audio professionals like mixing & mastering engineers, producers, and songwriters who worked with 8D music and have created 8D effects. Persons with great knowledge of sound engineering and mixing can do it. If you have the right software, it's as easy to create 8D audio as it is to use numbers of other audio editing programs with fairly good results however, they are far from sound professionals.
